Join Us in Welcoming Maryam!
We are delighted to announce that Maryam Polley has joined the Rotary Botanical Gardens staff as the full time Volunteer & Membership Coordinator. In her new role and in collaboration with the Interim Chief Executive Officer, Ron Kuramoto, she will manage all aspects of the volunteer program including recruitment, training, management, communications and data tracking of all volunteer activities. Maryam will also oversee the Gardens Friends Membership program, which will include acquisition of new members, implementation of member benefits and program refinement.
Maryam, formerly of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Psychology and Sociology and is a 2012 graduate of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She previously worked in the field of marketing for a manufacturing firm in South Beloit, IL and in the Gardens’ Cottage Garden Gift Gallery before accepting the position as the Volunteer & Membership Coordinator.
“I hope to meld my marketing experience with the recruitment and retention of new volunteers and new memberships,” said Maryam. “Accepting the position at the Rotary Botanical Gardens was a no-brainer, I thrive on interacting with people, serving the community and the Gardens just happens to be my favorite spot in Janesville. It serves as sanctuary, a quiet place to reflect and a place of celebration, love and peace and I hope others in and around our community will also find that here.”
Maryam also has a passion for historic preservation; especially the restoration of old homes, and is active in Blackhawk Questers, a local chapter of the Wisconsin Questers. Recently she and her significant other, Wesley, have embarked on a journey to travel to every single Wisconsin State Park and blog about their experiences, wistateparkcrawl.wordpress.com, to encourage others to get out and see all the vast natural beauty that Wisconsin offers. Officially starting the journey last year, they have traveled to 22 out of 47 state parks.
