Plant Sale Teaser

The Fall Plant Sale is now fully stocked, priced and ready for our Members Only Pre-Sale (Friday, September 9) tomorrow from 9 am until 4 pm at the Horticulture Center.  The sale is open for the public both Saturday and Sunday this weekend (also 9 am until 4 pm) at the Horticulture Center (follow signs off of Palmer Drive).  Not a member yet?  Come on down tomorrow and become a member and shop immediately. The 10% RBG Member discount extends over the duration of the weekend and the benefits of membership are quite extensive.  Check in to it!  The photo above is the ‘Lemon Queen’ perennial sunflower (Helianthus sp.) in the English cottage garden but the remainder of the photos are teasers from the plant sale taken today!

We had an excellent volunteer turnout today.  Kathy and Eva helped arrange asters in the plant sale with Olive H. and moved on to tidying in the garden.  Marilyn H. and Vera did some tidying up in the Scottish garden and Cheryl D. worked in the rose garden and tropical garden.  Ron P. and Ron R. collected leaves in various places throughout the gardens and Dave E. also raked and worked on tidying up gravel paths for our musical event tonight out in the gazebo garden.  Dave, Vern, Ron Y. and Jim finished creating our obelisks ($125) for the plant sale (see bottom photo) and Maury ran many errands.  Steve J. bounced between projects as did Dick H.  Dr. Gredler did his mowing and Bill O. was in for a couple projects.  Larry O. mowed and watered and we also saw Lisa I., Dr. Yahr, Ann R., Gary, Maryam, Chris D. and many others today.

The grounds staff (Big John, Cindy, Larry H.) helped unload our last load of mums for the sale and they all had other duties.  With all the rain last night (sideways!), we didn’t have much watering so the crew focused on tidying, path repair, a wide range of gardening tasks and Larry H. continued putting up LED lights.  We also saw Bobby K. later in the day as he did some electrical projects and has some big upgrades coming up soon that will help the Holiday Light Show (HLS).  I barely made it in the gardens today with my plant sale involvement but we’re ready for a big weekend and I think the weather will cooperate!  I did a radio spot today and we hope to see some awesome momentum for plant sale attendance and purchasing.
