Plan to Celebrate Earth Day With Us!

In honor of Earth Day, RBG will once again hold a special celebration. On Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., “Feathered Friends of the Gardens” will feature family friendly activities, a document shredding opportunity and amazing birds of prey shows.

You are invited to participate in several free activities throughout the day at RBG, including fun games, garden adventures (weather permitting) and hands-on projects. You may also take advantage of free admission to the Gardens during the event. New to the event this year, food and refreshments will be available for purchase. There will be a variety of community information available, courtesy of RBG and the following organizations: Basic’s Cooperative, Bird City – Janesville, City of Janesville, Janesville Urban Forest Alliance, Ice Age Trail Alliance, Rock-Green Audubon Society, RBG Education Committee, Sustainable Janesville Committee, Whitewater Urban Forestry Commission and UW-Whitewater Sustainability.

Additionally, Janesville residents may take part in the City of Janesville’s Shred Fest, a free document shredding service provided at Lion’s Beach from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Up to 5 bags or boxes of documents are allowed per vehicle and will be shredded at no cost.

The event at the Gardens will also include three birds of prey shows. Hoo’s Woods Raptor Center a non-profit raptor education and rehabilitation facility located near Milton, will present their wildly entertaining and educational programs starring several amazing raptors! The shows, held at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., will feature an eagle, owl, falcon and hawk. A 12:30 p.m. show will focus on the snowy owl only. Between shows, attendees are invited to interact with the birds and handlers while they learn more fascinating raptor facts from Hoo’s Woods. Shows will last approximately 45 minutes and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Admission for each raptor show is $3 per person age 3 and up, age 2 and under are free.
