Timely Rains Arrive!

I haven’t blogged in awhile but we’ve had a busy week!  The gardens continue to show peak summer color and our visitation is still very strong.  The group seen above includes volunteers from Midway Village Museum (Rockford, IL) and staff member Brian (third from the left).  These folks maintain the period gardens on site there and we had a nice tour of the gardens on Thursday morning and chatted about plants and “talked shop”.  Last night was our Volunteer Ice Cream Social that was well attended.  The group was able to meet Laura, our new Volunteer Coordinator / Education Coordinator.  As that event started, the rain began and we had a good soaking overnight.  Today was a day of preparation for four weddings on Saturday as well as general garden clean-up.  There is always significant clean-up after a strong storm which included mud issues, path washouts, leaf collection, etc.  Larry H., Ibhar, Alex and Cindy took care of business today and I saw Kathy P., Eva and Bill O. before I departed early for the day.  The Wellness Garden (top and bottom photos) continues to offer amazing color as does the entire garden right now.
