Welcome Precipitation

I was checking on the weather this morning and was worried about some early rain.  I warned everyone that the rain would arrive by 9 am but luckily it didn’t hit us until 10:30 am or so.  We were able to pack in a lot of work out in the gardens before the rain and shifted inside for some projects as the rest of the day was intermittent showers.  As I’m typing (9:30 pm), we’ve had more rain although we’ll see what it adds up to by tomorrow morning.  The timing is perfect to get us through a hot weekend although next week looks extremely wet as well.  Nice shot above under the pergola in the rose garden.

We had a small grounds crew today with Cindy, Trevor and Nolan.  Cindy checked water features, hauled debris and tidied up in the Hummingbird Haven theme of the Nancy Yahr Memorial Children’s Garden which is really starting to fill in nicely.  Cindy saw hummingbirds today too!  Cindy shifted inside for a wide range of indoor projects once the rain set in.  Trevor and Nolan had some work in the Giant Aquarium, greenhouse tasks and removed a lot of ornamental onion (Allium) debris that is going dormant.

I’m glad our volunteers decided to come in despite the chance of early rain.  We had a great crew this morning and also some help inside once the rain arrived.  Above are Larry (left) and his grandson Hayden who came in to help out.  Our weeding/tidying team included Kathy, Eva, Cheryl D. and Kay (in her area).  Our planters included Magda, Vicky, Marilyn and Suzie.  Marv B. was in to help out as was Dick H.  We also had help from Maury, Steve, Dave, Vern, Jim, Ron Y., Ron P., Bob C., Alan M., Dr. Gredler, Rollie, Gary, Peg, Nancy N., Barb T., Janet M., Marsha M. and many more.
