Celebrating World Nature Conservation Day at Rotary Botanical Gardens

World Nature Conservation Day falls on July 28 every year, marking the anniversary of the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, where world leaders first came together to prioritize protecting our planet's natural resources. Nearly 50 years later, that mission is just as urgent, and just as personal, right here in Janesville.

At Rotary Botanical Gardens, conservation isn't just a once-a-year conversation. It's the work we do every single day. For 38 years, our gardens have grown from an idea into a thriving 20 acre ecosystem, home to countless plant species, pollinators, and wildlife that depend on the habitats we maintain. None of that would have been possible without our community of members, volunteers, donors, and visitors who believe in what we're building.

How You Can Celebrate Today

  1. Visit the gardens. Come see conservation in action. Walk our paths, explore our collections, and experience firsthand the ecosystem our staff and volunteers have nurtured for nearly four decades.
